Through fun and engaging lessons, students work in a variety of mediums. We explore different art periods, artists and cultures. Students build on prior learning, and deepen their knowledge and understanding of art, all while discovering their own creative voices.

Crochet & Yarn Art

The art of crochet can be traced back to the 15th century and can be found across many different cultures throughout history. Crochet offers a range of mental and physical benefits. It is a form of mindfulness, which helps to reduce stress and anxiety by promoting relaxation and calming the mind.  In this camp, students will learn basic stitching skills, then build on those skills as we study the art and history of working with fibers. In addition to crochet, students will work with yarn to create other forms of art throughout the week, focusing on skills like weaving, macrame, works on canvas and sculpture.

Drawing & Cartoons

Throughout history, artists have been telling stories with images. From the cavemen, to early newspapers and advertising, to modern day social media and websites. Cartoonists, graphic designers and illustrators know how to say something, often with very few, or no words. In this camp, we’ll explore this history, then, we’ll design and tell stories with images, drawings and pictures, both by hand, and using technology. We’ll look at careers and creators, from the fields of advertising, web design, gaming, virtual, and augmented reality.

WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

Art with Ms. James is without a doubt the highlight of my daughter’s week. Each class she explores new mediums, learns a noteworthy artist, and deepens her understanding of the basics-lines, color, composition, and more. No worksheets or coloring pages here…Ms. James works with her students on a single piece for several weeks, ensuring their work is something to be framed and treasured for years to come.”
